Busy Weekend

Or at least it felt that way.

As you may or may not know Tara and I went to see Where the Wild Things Are on Friday.

I’m not so sure what to think about it. Before I go any further though, I will express what Tara said because it is the truth; “You’re just too picky about these things”.

Truth.

I can’t even imagine the daunting task to turn ten sentences into 101 minutes of film, but it was attempted and done. And it was pretty. Really really pretty.

I know there had to be more of a plot put into this movie, but it wasn’t really the plot I was expecting. At times it was “Where the Emo Things Are”, and that just didn’t work for me.

But did I mention it was pretty? Because it really really was.

Saturday was yard cleaning day, and the backyard looks so much better now. We trimmed the hedges, cleared out the weed garden and generally just made the place look good. Tara really want’s to do something with the patch that’s between the fence and the shed, and we’re thinking of making a little green house type thing. Clear plastic and wood should do it :D

The evening was spent getting the rest of the Save the Dates done. We had to make a major design change because things just weren’t working out.

So expect those in the mail…sometime.

Sunday was a slowish start and then an afternoon in the Hills. We like the hills, they’re pretty.

The dog likes the hills as well. We got get to go into the water a little, but only up to her knees.

She went in pretty willingly.

And I made it through the whole weekend without a page out, so I’m happy and I think I’m off pager duty until next year.

Mind you, I thought that a couple of months ago, so we’ll see :)

Updates and such

Tara and I fled the house last night and wadded into the crowds to go see Harry Potter last night.

It was surprisingly easy. We got there very eary(8:15 for a 9:45 show) and there was almost no one in the damn theater.

So we wandered about to the local shops, in which I tried to convince Tara of the advantages of a 50″ plasma, and then wandered back to the movie house.

Now a line had formed, and there were roughly 20 people ahead of us.

So we waited, then moved, then waited some more.

The movie itself was alright, but I don’t think it’s up there with the rest that I’ve seen. It was darker to be sure, and I’m interested in how it ended and where it will go, but that’s about it.

I mean, there really wasn’t all that much going on that couldn’t have been tacked onto the last movie. Sure, some of the interpersonal stuff is growing, but that’s just a high school thing.

I’ve also been notified that my LiveJournal account is coming up for renewal, and ya know, I don’ t think I’ll pay for it this year. I have this wonderful web space that I’m paying for already, and there’s just no need to keep the LJ account at a paid level. I’ll drop down to Plus, which has ads, but I’m not concerned about that.

I don’t think I would ever delete the account, but I just don’t wanna pay for it anymore.

Other than that Tara and I are going to go play mini-putt tomorrow after dinner.

A day of me

Which sounds like an awful lot for anyone to handle, but Tara did it well :)

She wanted to do this to show me how much she loves me. I know she does, and I love her so much, but today was just her special way to show it to me.

The day started with almost breakfast in bed, but breakfast at the table with peanut butter pancakes (awesome!) and fresh fruit was a great way to start the day. She also gave me a little gift that would have been for my birthday, a Star Wars Mighty Mugg. I really wanted to get more of these at Anime North, but no one was selling them at a reasonable price(about $10 MORE than at a normal store). And this brings up the collection to 4.

Then she massaged my tired old body all over, and I returned the favor. This is something Tara and I like to do a lot, it helps with any stress and just makes us feel good. We even went a got ourselves a nice massage table.

Then a nap, because a good day is a day that includes a nap.

Our next activity was to have some lunch at Moxies so that I could get myself a Vindaloo. I don’t make great Indian food, so to have it properly prepaird and tasty is great. And Moxies does a really good job on this dish, and I think it’s the only thing I get from there :)

A movie was in order after lunch, and we went to see Up. Hands down one of the top three Pixar movies. But it did make us cry during the first 10 minutes. Tara elbows me and says, with a hint of sarcasm, “Great movie selection Bill!”. I think you had to be there.

And if it wasn’t for the wild child who insisted on dancing and carrying on at the front of the theater, it would have been perfect.

I know that kids are hard to control sometimes, but people don’t seem to be respectful of all the other people that had to pay the same amount. The mother was initially trying to calm her down a little, but seems to have given up at one point and just let her carry on. Not the way I would have done it, but then again, I don’t have kids.

Most of the rest of the day was spent playing one game or another. I had rented Army of Two, and while fun, also kinda frustrating and too much like Gears of War. If it was cheap I might pick it up, but it would have to be real cheap. Then I started on Mass Effect and I’m trying to get past the point I got playing it on the PC. Not that it was too far, and the console controls are no better/worse than the PC controls. Just a little different. And I have to get used to no mice when I aim. That’s gonna take time.

Tara made some amazing chili today, which is mostly funny because she doesn’t like chili. She made it just for me :)

After a little playing with the animals, I think it’s finally time to call it a day.

It was certainly an amazing day and one that I will owe her for some time :)

Random Updates

Been a couple of days, things have happened and I keep meaning to update, so here I am!

In my life as a driver of cars, many animals have crossed my path, some of which I’ve hit(really sorry about that) and most I’ve missed.

I’ve even nudged a moose, and been chased by a baby cow. Not at the same time because that would have just been toooooo much to take.

But the other day, while driving Tara to work, a wild turkey ran across the road.

Wild.

Turkey.

I was told later that day that it was the first day of turkey hunting season, so now it doesn’t seem to odd.

No, it still seems odd, but slightly less odd.

Monday was stinking hot, and when it got to 29 degrees in the house I decided that it was finally time for AC(no DC).

I’m happy to tell you that it’s still working and the house cooled rather well. Once it was at a good place it got much cooler outside so we turned it off.

That evening I decided to take the new mower for a spin in the back yard.

Assembly was pretty easy, as it almost always is, and it ran fairly well.

Had to make adjustments to the height as the backyard is a little uneven.

I like this mower because it’s small, easy to maneuver, and has a bag.

So I’m done mowing, get a collection bag to put the grass in(don’t have a compost heap yet) and, well, hardly any grass was in the bag.

This means one of two things; the grass really wasn’t that tall or it doesn’t collect the grass well.

Either way, not so bad, at least not for the price of the mower.

I’ve been working on a high priority ticket for the past couple of days, and it makes for some long evenings. Wednesday I worked my usual shift and then 9:30-11:30pm.

Yesterday was an early start for someone in Taiwan, so it was 6am-5pm, then 7-8, then 10-11:30. So long days. Most of the time was on the phone and really not all that stressful.

I feel sorry for the dudes that are on site. When the tests are running, I can go get ice cream(which I did, 31 cent Baskin Robin day; two cones, two scoops each, $1.30 total) while they have to stay on site and look busy.

Or sleep. I think I would sleep. I suspect I would be fired, but then I could go home and sleep ;)

Tonight I think we’re going to go see the Soloist. I’m meeting Tara downtown after work. I suspect we’ll grab a quick bite to eat(or just eat popcorn) and then the movie.

I’m trying to get my office clean and tidy before Tara’s mom shows up. For the most part there was just junk lying about the place, and now you can at least see the majority of the floor.

I’m building a simple table from a slab of wood and an upside down drawer. This will hold the printer so I can have more space on the other desk.

The next big thing is to actually clean my desk, move some things around, and make it a better place all around.

Then maybe I’ll add some cool lights and just make it look neat. Or I won’t. Could go either way.

How’s your week been?

Weekend Update

Just a little late, but no one’s really worried :)

Mostly quiet weekend. Picked myself up a brand new Lawn Mower from Canadian Tire.

It’s a little 14″ blade, but it’s not a big back yard, and the mower has a bag. All that for $100 isn’t bad at all.

http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/2/OutdoorLiving/2/PowerEquipment/LawnMowers/PRD~0601750P/Yardworks%2B8A%2B%252B%2B14-in%2B2-in-1%2BElectric%2BLawn%2BMower.jsp

So now there’s no excuse to not mow the yard. Also, we did a little bit of extra work back there like sorting out the garden area and Tara has been doing some bulb planting.

I think she really likes the idea of having a garden. I like it too as it get’s me out there doing stuff that I should have been doing ages ago.

Went and saw Monsters vs Aliens Saturday night. Jim and Steph were to join us, but Steph was ill. We almost didn’t go as Tara had a headache, and in hindsight it might have been a good idea to skip it altogether.

But we didn’t, and the movie wasn’t that great. I think I had my hopes set extra high as I heard a lot of great things about the movie.

Tara had to duck out during the last 15 minutes because she was coughing, and we left pretty quickly after that. Then she crashed, and hard.

I stayed up to catch up on Lost(which I’m still not up on) and then slept in the other bed as to not bug her.

Sunday was filled with some shopping(can’t remember what now though)  and then a quiet dinner as Tara still was feeling groggy. New meds just aren’t helping that at all.

Watched the new Dr. Who special(kewl) and the new Red Dwarf stuff(not as good).

It’s funny, with Red Dwarf they removed the laugh track, and now it just feels a little hollow. I know it’s odd, and I’ve never been a fan of it, but it feels wrong not having it.

Think I have the comment spam sorted, thanks to a plugin that’s included with WP. Should read these things :)

Other than that, I should just get back to work I guess….
