Godzilla on the brain

This happens to me all the time:
I get a shipment of something, or I see something interesting on the interwebs, and I get completely distracted by it and it becomes all encompassing.
Much like that sentence ^_^

Anyway…

I realized that I don’t have the 1984-1996 Godzilla movies on DVD. In fact, all I really have are the first and last movies on DVD.
There was a time when it was hard to get this series, then it became completely available, and now it’s hard to get again.
For those “not in the know” these movies are:
Godzilla 1985(Return Of Godzilla)
Godzilla Vs. Biollante
Godzilla vs King Ghidorah
Godzilla And Mothra: The Battle For Earth
Godzilla Vs. Mechangodzilla II
Godzilla vs Space Godzilla
Godzilla vs Destoroyah

I have all of these on VHS, but that’s VHS, dubbed, and my VCR is mono. That, and I’m not sure it actually works.

So, in my quest, Amazon(com/ca) has “Godzilla vs King Ghidorah/Godzilla And Mothra: The Battle For Earth”, Godzilla Vs. Mechangodzilla II and “Godzilla vs Space Godzilla/Godzilla vs Destoroyah” in three separate sets.
Which is all find and dandy, but apparently Mechangodzilla II is the same price as each of the double sets. Still not bad considering the set’s are about $14.99(CDN$ 21.56).
That still leaves Godzilla 1985 and Godzilla Vs. Biollante.
The problem with G1985 is that it’s the American version with Raymond Burr, and while this is less edited than King of the Monsters, it’s still changed.
Enter DVDAsia.com, which has region 3 copies of most of the Godzilla movies. They all have English subs, so that’s good, and they’re all cheap, which is extra good.
Their shipping doesn’t seem stupidly high as they’re based out of California instead of Hong Kong.
I might be better off getting the Amazon sets and then getting the two others that I need from these guys. Hell, I might also pick up the rest of the 2000+ movies from them as well.

Boy, that bonus of mine better be good 😛

Go Go Godzilla!

Just got in my shipment from Chibi Goji Toys!

She’s super easy to deal with and responds very quickly to email.
I placed my order less than 2 weeks ago, and technically it showed up last night.

Anyway, on to the goodness ^_^

Cool little freebie
Godzilla Babushka
He dances!(although not as much as I had thought)
Godzilla Hamtoro

Yea, dumb little purchases, but so worth it.

I’ll have a pic of the slippers a little later, there’s only so much I can get away with at work ^_^

Gates on Stewart

I’m watching the clip of Bill Gates on the Daily Show, and he’s talking about Betas:
JS-What exactly is a beta version?
BG-That’s the term we use when it’s not quiet ready.

Had to chuckle at that. Apparently I’m still using WinXP Beta 😛

phpPimp bugs

Alrighty.

The best way to find bugs in an app is to try and actually use it properly.
And that’s what I did tonight.
I’ve been keeping track of my finances using a different app for the Palm, and tonight I transcribed it over to phpPimp(still love that name).
During the first few minutes I found a bug.
It’s a display bug only, not something that’s wrong with the backend data, which is good.
What happens is this:
When you’re entering in your transactions, you would enter the Category Parent and Child.
Well, the display at the bottom(after you’ve entered) will list the first Child Category with that ID, even if it’s not the right one.
Again, this is only a display bug, and when I fixed it, everything showed up right.

Debugging is cool that way.

I’ve also determined that I don’t like using the mouse when I don’t really have to, but the app makes you.
Gonna have to change that.

Beta2 will be mostly visual improvements and some usability stuff, as the backend is workable and stable.

Oh no, Beta!

That’s right, the long awaited first beta of my little finance app is finally done and available.

More after the cut.

Alrighty, here’s a link to the file:
PHPpIMP.tar

Installation is pretty simple; download, copy to /var/www(on my system at least), untar into a useful directory.
Prereqs:
MySql(latest is always best, but I think I’m using 5)
apache
php(again, think it’s 5)
mysql thingies for php
MYSQL database already created, no tables, and a user that has full access to the tables(I’ve been using the root default)

Edit dbconfig.php with the info you’ll be using for the database.
Once all that is done, run the dbconfig.php in your browser.
No, it doesn’t give feedback, so if you see nothing, then it’s all good.

Then launch main.html and start using!

Since this is the first beta, there are a few things it doesn’t do:
1. Deleting transactions (although it looks like you can, future function)
2. Edit recurring transactions, but you can delete them
3. any kind of reporting

It has some basic error handling. Recurring transactions have to be set in the future.

With transactions, if they’re debits, make sure the amount is negative. This goes for recurring as well.

Can’t think of anything else right now.

Try it out(or not, I’m not the boss of you) and let me know what you think.

YouTube Strikes again

Can’t remember how I started, but I ended on X-Japan videos.

For those in the don’t-know, X-Japan was a great Japanese speed metal band(although they did ballads as well) that put out a few good albums then just went their separate ways.
I think the frontman died though.

Anyway, I got into them around the same time I got the car, so it’s been a couple of years.
I always had bits and pieces, never a full album, just what I could grab of the p2p.

Anyway, here’s some links, enjoy:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3u5ECw5PNA (the hair, oh gods the hair)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yzs4iuSizWU (much more realistic hair, although there is this lingering glance between singer and guitarist)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6wsgKA2I1Y (first song of theirs I’d ever heard)

There, that should keep you busy for 20 minutes. ^_^

Slayer

It’s now official.
Doug and I are off to see Slayer on the 9th of February.

I’m not sure why they would be playing at the Scotia Bank Place. It seems a little large for them.
Not to say that they couldn’t get that kind of crowd, but in Ottawa?

The Civic Center does seem like a better place.

But Priest and Anthrax were there, so I guess it could work.

Really excited to go, Slayer’s one of those bands that I’ve always meant to see.
And now I will ^_^

Weird

ok, so I’m not sure how I’m feeling, but weird is defiantly up there.

It feels like I’ve had too much caffeine, but it’s only three cups of coffee today. Mind you, that’s one more than usual.
I’m also hungry. I had a biggish breakfast at Tims, but it’s mostly bread with no protein, so it doesn’t last long.
Lunch was a Slim-Fast. Enough said.
Could be low blood-sugar.
It could also be that I’m tired. Not a lot of sleep on the weekend.

Anyway, just thought I’d share.

Powerless

I woke up at 5am this morning to the sound of the UPS beeping away.
I have to admit that I like the idea of the UPS, but the beeping has to go.
Still didn’t have power when I left for work this morning, but I suspect it’ll be on soon enough.
On the upside it wasn’t just me. If it was just me then I’d be really worried. But it’s just he suckiness of Kanata power.

I drove to Tim Hortons for breakfast this morning.
I had run out of peanut butter, so I was going to have cereal. No milk, so I was going to have eggs.
No power. Tims it is.

But, I’m not as bad off as the boss. He got to work this morning to find that his HD is dead.

In other news, the dog has slept out of her cage now for the past three nights without any problems.
I think now that we have her diet sorted out, and the amount of walks and ‘out’ time is also sorted, there’s no pacing and making of messes in the house.
Also, there’s no damage going on, which is also a plus.
I’ll keep doing this until she does something strange, or the next few months.
Then I’ll start to keep her out in the afternoon. Or not, hard to say.
