It's Friday

And really, I have nothing for you.

As a look into my weekend though, here’s something:
-Tonight – either hang out with the GF or see a movie, but it’s looking like GF(not a bad thing)
-Tomorrow – Get the dogs stitches removed and change the car’s oil
-Tomorrow night – This was the original hang out with the GF, but that might be moved to tonight
-Sunday – dinner with the folks, possible fire works display

Other than all that, I plan to sit on my butt and do very little.

I’ve been experimenting with different music players.
Most recently Jajuk. It’s pretty, and it organizes your music via artist/album/genre/file listing.
It even does this nice pie-cart thing to tell you how much of each type of music you have.
That’s assuming your tags are all working properly.
It’s cross platform(Win/Lin/Mac) and free.
It’s built on java.
It’s SLOW!

Now, maybe I’m different than most other MP3 fans, but I have over 100Gigs of them. For Jajuk to go through them all takes(literally) all night.
Then, if you’re playing something and updating tags, it’ll make the music skip. Not helpful.
People compare it to Amarok for linux, which I have to say can’t handle my music collection at all(keeps crashing).

So while it’s nice to know that 6% of my music collection appears to be metal(8% industrial, 64%others) I don’t think it’s worth the aggravation.
I’ll try something else.
Foobar2000 has always been pretty helpful, especially in the re-tagging part. It will actually search out on CDDB for tags that most match the selection you’re making.
Sometimes that works, sometimes not.
And it doesn’t take all day to organize your stuff.

  1. FB2k FTW!

I’ve been hearing good stuff about Jajuk, but it seems to follow the iTunes model which I don’t really like very much. Mind you… I am starting to see the value in something like smart playlists, so that I can get fiddle-free background music while I’m trying to work on stuff.

  2. I’m sure there’s some kind of plug-in for FB2k that would do that though. In all honesty, I haven’t played around too much with it. But it didn’t take hours and hours to read through my hard drive, which is always a plus.

    Silly slow java…

  3. Pandora had a hard time figuring me out. Fun to play with, but I was spending too much time skipping, or checking to see what it was playing when it got something right. So it was a little to distracting for work purposes…
