Heroes

It’s hard to put into words how happy this show makes me.

Because probably hasn’t watched tonights episode(bah, Hockey!) I won’t give anything away.
But let me just say that I think I wet myself a little while watching Heroes tonight.

In the beginning, there was a lot of talk how Heroes reminded people so much of X-Men, and a lot of people poo-pooed this.
I can really see how Tim Kring must have got some inspiration from X-Men though.
It’s just the rich story line and plots and the like. It just blows me away!

I will be buying the DVD set when it comes out.

The only thing that worries me is, can he keep it up for next season. That was the downfall of Lost.
I really hope Tim knows what he’s doing, because this season will be hard to top.

So.
Happy!

Phone

With number portability, I’ve been thinking of changing carriers.

I have an unlocked phone, so that’s one thing I don’t need to get. Or so I thought.
happily reminded me that Canadian Cell Phone carriers aren’t playing on the same page.
Bell/Telus uses a different network than Rogers/Fido.
Meaning I wouldn’t be able to use my phone with Bell/Telus.
Crapo.

I don’t want to get into another contract, and I don’t feel like buying a phone. Again.

Besides, when it’s all said and done, for what services I have, Rogers is either the same or cheaper than everyone else.
Sorry, not true. Telus is $5 less a month for the same service.
Buuuut, I’d have to buy a phone and possibly get on a contract. Neither of which I want to do right now.

So I’m stuck with Rogers. I guess that’s not such a bad thing.
Now I’m just waiting for Bell/Telus to catch up with the rest of the world and move to GSM.

Yar!

Best laid plans

Yesterday I bought a used Blackberry. Tomorrow I’m gonna sell it.
This is what happens when you do 0 research into buying something.
Apparently I need a special BB account with Rogers in order to do things like send/receive email.
Knowing that, and knowing that I’m not going to get said account, let’s go over the other positives that the BB offers me:
1. qwerty keyboard

That’s it.
What am I loosing?
1. speaker phone
2. custom ring tones
3. easy functions
4. Camera

That doesn’t make the BB worth it in my book.
Oh well, it was only $100, and I’m sure I can get that much for it.

The next time I’m thinking of doing something like this, someone remind me that I’m an idiot 😀

Facebook

As yet another social network thingy, I was a little suspect.
I have to admit that, after a whole day of being on this, I’ve run into and reconnected with about 4 people that I went to college with.
So far, best social network thingy evar!

When suggested this, I was thinking “Why the hell do I want to connect with the feebs I went to HS with?”.
Then I poked around a little, and found college mates.
Coolio.

I’m rambling….

How time changes

Neat little video of how they created the Dr Who theme music in the 80’s.

It’s interesting to watch because of how much tech has changed since then. Their ‘advanced synth’ is polyphonic, it can play 8 notes at once!
My cell phone can do 64 😀

Weekend Update

Mostly productive all things considered.
Saturday morning was spent changing the rear brakes. It was a lot easier that I thought it was going to be.
The hardest part was winding the pistons back into place. But even that it wasn’t that hard, there was just a bit of a trick to it.
So far so good, the brakes seem to be doing their jobs. They’re causing the car to stop and not doing much else.
This is good.

Saturday night was spent with Tara. It’s good to have her back. 😀

Sunday wandered about looking for a library. Found it mostly by fluke, which is the best way to find anything.

Then dinner with the folks and the nephew.

Caught up on Dr Who and Torchwood.
I really hope that it’s not coming back for a second season. It was really crap.

Currently watching the Sarah Jane Adventures, and so far it’s mucho better.
I should probably download and catch up on Lost. I hear it’s getting back to being good.

Anyway…ummm…coffee’s ready!

Brakes Pt 2

Did the rear brakes today.
Took about 2 hours total, which is pretty good.
They really needed replacing, they were warn down pretty good.
And the last people to do them(VW) goofed with the tension springs(I think that’s what they’re called).
See, with the back calipers, there’s these two spring things that I assume keep the pads in place.
There’s one at the top and one at the bottom. Well, the dude that did it put on spring on top of another, doubling up the bottom spring and not having a top spring at all!
I mean, really?
I saw how it was supposed to be done on the one side, you’d think he would have seen that too and said to himself; ” I wonder why there’s only one spring? Oh well”
Oh well?!
It’s not a critical error, but it might have been enough to do some damage I would think!
VW Techs FTW!
Actually, VW Techs For The Stupid.

I did it right.
Me!
They guy following a $20 maintenance book that’s not well illustrated!
ME FTW!

And I do feel better about my instruction following abilities.

Too bad the clutch/transmission is making a weird noise.
Maybe it’s just low on fluid.
I really hope that’s the case…

And Tara comes back in 3 hours!

Brakes

I feel cool.
Changed my front brake pads, and didn’t kill myself!

All in all it took 2.5 hours.
2 hours to do the drivers side, 30 minutes to do the passenger side.
That makes sense I guess. Doing the same thing the second time is always easier than the first.
And now I have all of Saturday to do the back brakes. Apparently they’re a wee bit harder. Needs a special tool and the like.

There was a moment of panic when I thought I might have stripped a bolt, but it looks like I didn’t.
Which is good, since that’s a big mistake to deal with.
There was also a new light on the dash!
But that was me being stupid. I forgot to put the lid back on the brake fluid overflow. Once that was on, light went off.

Woot!

I really have nothing else to report other than Ubuntu 7.04 is out.
I think I might spend the afternoon upgrading the laptop tomorrow.

I mean, it’s not like I have real work to do!
