Month: January 2011

Shot day

Monday was shot day. Sadly, it wasn’t the kind of shots that might take away pain, in fact, it was quiet the opposite.

The whole doctors visit was going well. He’s just a hair under 15lbs, he’s in the 80th% for his height and weight(you know, one day I’m going to look up what that means, but by the look on the doctors face, I assume it’s good) and generally in good health. Because he’s a premi, they do this adjusted age thing where, for development purposes, they say he was born on Nov 1st, not Sept 22nd. And they keep this up for the first 18 months. Sure, whatever. Well, the doc thinks we can drop this after the 6 month mark. He’s well advanced for his adjusted age, and is acting more like a 4 month old. No, it’s still too early to consider skipping grades in school, but it’s a good start to his life.

He’s still eating like a 2.5 month old, but that’s ok for now.

So yea, the visit was going well. But at some point Liam lost it. He was being examined and just freaked the hell out. And while the doctor was trying to explain something, Liam just couldn’t be consoled, so we brought in the nurse to get things over with. I held him, Tara held his legs, and the nurse shot him. Well, if Liam had considered calming down, he threw that out. Then I had to adjust him for the other leg. It was at this point that the nurse told me “This one is worse” Right, how much worse could it be?

I held him, Tara held his legs, and I waited for Liams head to explode or something. I wasn’t that far off. The nurse left, we bundled him up, and by the time we got to the hallway, he was quiet again.

These shots are gonna be the death of me.

4 months

It was 4 months ago today that Liam entered our lives. It’s been a quick, and long, 4 months. We’re just as tired now as we were then, but it’s a kind of tired that you don’t mind(well, much).
Tara and I really don’t have a schedule, we have a plan that we go through, but not so much a schedule. We’re starting that soon though, and I think it’ll be helpful on many fronts. Least of which will be more, or consistent, sleep. It’ll also give us a chance to spend more one on one time with each other, and get done the things we keep meaning to do. Those books aren’t going to read themselves 😉
I was told that there’s really no point in trying a schedule before the three month mark, and I guess his adjusted age is still 2.5(ish) months, but I think we’ll throw out that whole adjusted age thing, he doesn’t seem to be following that very well, and I think he’s a good 4 month old. So we’ll use that.

I look over and he’s swinging in his swing, looking up at the little birdies and generally just in a good mood. He has a little cold, but with some rest and warmth, he’ll get over that soon.

He smiles at us. He knows who we are, and smiles when we come into focus. And he loves to smile, and it’s rather easy to get him to do it.
It’s the kind of smile that can take all your cares away, the kind of smile that’s contagious.

He’s a joy to be around and I love the time I get to spend with him everyday.

So while the first 4 months have been a special kind of challenge, we’re looking forward for all the next challenges and everything that comes with it.

What’s old is new again

Thanks to the internet archives, I’ve found some old posts from 2000 and 2001.

To sorta celebrate, I’ve changed the site’s look so that it more resembles mechaknight.com way back in the day.

Way back then, the ‘blog’ was just one long index.html file that I would just edit the top of and resave. And the main tag was:

As a type of introduction, this is my little personal space that I use to display my Gundam Models(if/when I get them done), my musical interests, stuff that takes place in my life, road trips(AX 2001 being the big one), and just random rants.
So, I hope you enjoy it and come back often ^_^

It’s really too bad that I did something really stupid and lost all the posts from the 2001 road trip. Crosswinds deleted my account rather suddenly when I tried to upload zip files to an application that I wanted to take home. See, you can’t do that, so they just pulled the plug, no warning. It was a free account so they could do that kind of thing, but because of that there’s a lot missing. The internet archive didn’t catch it all, which is a shame.

So head on over to the archives, between 2000 and 2001, and read in the goodness 😀
