Dog Thoughts
ok, I should be working, but what ya gonna do?
I’ve been thinking more and more about building a dog house and leaving the dog outside while I’m at work.
Now, this won’t actually start until the spring, so I have some time to mull it over.
Here’s the plan:
Build dog house in shady area of back yard.
Have it raised a little to avoid flooding if it rains.
If the temp get’s too high, have the dog stay inside.
Rig some kind of useful water system so that she always has water.
Fence in yard.
She’s quiet enough, and I think everyone around me works during the day anyway.
And it’s not she’ll never be allowed inside, but I’m thinking she’d rather be outside for 8 hours than in a cage for 8 hours.
Thoughts?
Am I missing some key critical piece of information, or does this sound like a good idea to anyone?
Beyond the obvious ‘messing’ of the yard, I don’t really care as I have a deck ^_^

Well if you don’t let her have free roam of the house while you are gone then yes, outside will be better.
She doesn’t have free roam as she gets bored and looks for things to chew on.
Then I’d skip doing any planting you really are attached to, although she might not be a digger esspecially with squirrles to nose after.
Well, so long as “Fence in yard” includes “make sure dog can’t dig under fence”…
Hey Bill,
It would work in the winter, spring and fall, I would not do it in the summer as she is a husky and will over heat very easily.
Matt
I was thinking about this, and I think it would still work in the summer, but on the really hot days I’d keep her indoors.
Granted, that could mean that half of the summer she’d be inside, but I’m willing to live with that.
I get the feeling that Huskies can survive the winter if two things are present:
the ability to run at length
other huskies
I can provide neither. So I’m not sure how well she’d deal with the winter.
But again, I could be totally wrong ?_?
