A the year draws to a close, I’ve been requested to update my  blog because I’ve been a slacker 😉

To say that 2010 has been a busy/exciting year is a wee bit of an understatement.

It started out pretty simple. Tara was getting into the swing of her new job, I was working from home 100% of the time, and we had this little wedding to plan and work towards.

Then, on the 19th of January, my grandmother passed away. It was a tough time with conflicting feelings. There was the celebration of her life, and the sadness of her passing. I’ll always feel that I never got to know her the way I wanted to, or meant to.

March 2nd was also an interesting day. That day I picked up Tara early from work because she was ill, and at some point in the afternoon, Tara walks down the stairs with a pregnancy test in her hand and says” I think this explains something”. I don’t think I said anything, and just looked at it. Then, as the kind of guy I am, went out to get another one. It was also positive.  I guess stunned is a good work to describe what we were feeling. Here we were, a couple of fertility specialists down, mostly useless I might add, and here we were just doing it on our own. It’s funny how life works out that way.

So we were pregnant, on the same week as our marriage prep class(also kinda useless).

And so began the many many trips to the hospital for ultrasounds, checkups, and the occasional trip to triage. Oh, and one trip in an ambulance.

So with all of this, we still had a wedding to plan and attend. And for the most part this went really well. Yes, the week before was really really hectic and stressful, but everything got done when it needed to get done. Then, just when you thought you could just relax, we found out that Tara was committed to bedrest. Yes, the day before the wedding. It was very stressful, but we kept positive.

The day of the wedding is something that will always be a part of me. Tara surprised me with a classic car to drive me to the venue. I surprised her with a nice little laptop.  The day went from really hot to torrential rain in the blink of an eye. But it went so quickly we could hardly wait for the video and pictures.  We want to thank everyone for attending and making the day even more special.

So, bed rest. I was working from home full time, and we decided to move a bed into the living room so that Tara wasn’t kept hidden away. This period was a little stressful as, well, I don’t think anyone wants to be confined to a bed. But this didn’t last as long as we thought it would. It turns out that Tara wasn’t confined to a bed for too too long. Just long enough 😉

The summer just flew by. Tara had a few more stops at triage, and the doctors were worried that Liam would be born sooner rather than later, so they kept her in for a week due to a bladder/kidney infection. After that was all cleared, they decided that Liam would just have to come now. Tara was released on the Monday, and we had a c-section booked for Wednesday morning. It wasn’t what we planned, Tara really wanted to try natural birth, but it wasn’t in the cards.
Wednesday morning arrived much faster than either of us thought and we were both very nervous. It didn’t help that the staff couldn’t put in an IV to save their lives, and had to call upon the lead Anesthesiologist to get a line in. She did it in two seconds 😉
Then, at 10:40am, September 22nd, Liam Nathaniel Fuller was born. That was three months ago today.

To say that he’s changed in the last three months is an understatement. He’s come such a long way from being a 5lb primi to a 15lb(estimate) baby boy. And he changes each day.

This year has been the most exciting of my life. I married the woman I love, we had a wonderful baby boy, and I have my own family to spend Christmas with.
